چکیده
Intra-abdominal sepsis, including peritonitis and abscess formation, present serious and potentially lifethreatening events in the management of surgical patients with significant resultant morbidity and mortality. Twenty percent of patients presenting with generalised suppurative peritonitis and over 50% of high risk patients with post-operative intra-abdominal sepsis die despite intensive treatment. Major recent advances have occurred in the conceptual understanding of the pathogenesis, diagnostic methodology, antibiotic therapy and application of non-invasive technology in intra-abdominal sepsis. As a consequence, the management of intra-abdominal infection requires a careful interdisciplinary approach, with close collaboration between surgeon, physician, radiologist, bacteriologist and anaesthetist.

Microbiology of Intra-Abdominal Infections: Pathogens, Work-up, and Antimicrobial Susceptibility
Introduction An intra-abdominal infection may be defined as a disease process caused by micro-organisms (usually bacteria and/or fungi) that is situated in the abdominal cavity. Intra-abdominal infections can be considered as either uncomplicated, where the infectious process involves only a single organ and no anatomical disruption is present, or complicated [1,2]. Complicated intra-abdominal ...

Objective(s): Appendicitis remains the most common condition in the pediatric population requiring emergency abdominal operation. Management of acute simple appendicitis is well described but controversy remains as to the optimal treatment of complicated appendicitis. Common complications of acute appendicitis include: localized peritonitis and abscess formation, flegmon and general perito...
متن کاملLaparoscopic Appendectomy in Complicated Appendicitis of Children
Background: Laparoscopy is not an accepted procedure for complicated appendicitis in children for most pediatric surgeons. This procedure is associated with a higher incidence of postoperative abdominal abscess reported in some studies. Objectives: In this study, we investigated the security, efficacy and complications of laparoscopy in children with complicated appendicitis in Mofid Children's...

Background and Objectives: Peritonitis is one of the most important emergency abdominal surgeries which mostly occurs due to intra-abdominal visceral perforation. Case Presentation: The patient was a 54-year-old man referred to the emergency department for abdominal pain and inability in passing gas and defecation. In physical examination, there was a generalized tenderness with guarding; in t...

ment for intra−abdominal abscess, al− though operative mortality is high [1]. Percutaneous drainage is another option but is associated with significant morbid− ity due to the relatively long route used for catheter placement [1,2]. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)−guided drainage is po− tentially safe and effective for intra−ab− dominal abscess. We report a case of omental bursa abscess complicatin...
